German company wins Baghdad airport contract

German firm wins contract to install flight display system at Baghdad airport

BERLIN (AP) -- Germany's Airbiz GmbH said Wednesday it has won a euro1.2 million ($1.7 million) contract to install a new flight information display system at Baghdad International Airport.
The contract is for the company's FlightVision system, designed for small to medium-sized airports on tight budgets with displays showing flight information on normal television sets, and also for the building's public address system.

Four Airbiz employees from Germany will work in Iraq alongside eight local workers to install the system in around six months, the company said.

Bischofsheim-based Airbiz, whose customers include Frankfurt airport operator Fraport, said it hopes the contract will "be a showpiece leading to other contracts in the Gulf region."

"Businesspeople in Iraq are like businesspeople anywhere else: They demand fast, reliable information," the company said in a statement.
